Police look for robbers accused of stealing $10,000-worth of iPods

DEERFIELD TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Police are looking for burglars accused of stealing $10,000-worth of iPods from the Deerfield Township Best Buy.

The burglary happened around 9:20 p.m. Sunday night. Officers responded within three minutes of the alarm drop, but the suspects were already gone.

Police did find a van that had been stolen earlier in Loveland that had a rammed rear door.

"When I arrived on the scene, the van was parked right in front of the door," said Best Buy General Manager Tim Oldeen. "Looked like they had hit it very hard you can kinda see the tire mark in this area here."

Oldeen said he had barely gotten home when the alarm company called.

"It was kind of a tense moment for me," he said. "Seeing as it was like a home invasion in my mind because I spend so much time here."

"The van had crashed the door over there and then they had broken in through the window that's right next to the door here," he said, pointing to a tall window.

Surveillance video revealed that the suspects were wearing masks and gloves to conceal their identities.

"They were in looking for the iPod touch," Oldeen said. "They didn't touch all of the items that were in the case here, in fact, when we got into the store and started looking, this whole side was empty where the door was broken, the other side still had most of the items left, which included some iPod Touches and other iPods. So they were in specifically for the model, the $200, 8-gigabyte iPod Touch."

New shatterproof glass has now been installed, but a certain sense of security has certainly been broken.

"I felt like it was a nightmare or an action movie more so than somewhere that I go to work every day. it was very very surreal," Oldeen said.

The back door has also now been replaced and the store is stepping-up it's security plan.

Similar offenses have recently occurred in Columbus, Cleveland and Florida.

Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers at 513-352-3040.
