Pike Drafted By Panthers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - The Carolina Panthers have picked

Cincinnati quarterback Tony Pike in the sixth round of the NFL

draft.

The 6-foot-6, 223-pound Pike threw for 2,520 yards and 29

touchdowns with six interceptions last season while leading the

Bearcats to the Sugar Bowl. The Panthers took Pike with the 202nd

overall pick as their fourth pick of the sixth round, following

Mississippi defensive end Greg Hardy, Baylor receiver David Gettis

and Texas A&M defensive back Jordan Pugh.

The Panthers have now drafted a pair of quarterbacks in Pike and

second-rounder Jimmy Clausen, creating plenty of competition for

unproven returnees Matt Moore and Hunter Cantwell.

Carolina also took South Carolina linebacker Eric Norwood in the

fourth round Saturday and has two picks in the seventh round.
