COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - A Kenton County grand jury has indicted a man in connection with the death of 15-year-old Karen Kappelman.

Jordan Hart, 20, faces one count of unlawful transaction with a minor, a misdemeanor that carries a punishment of up to a year in prison. Investigators with the Boone County Sheriff's Office said Hart provided alcohol to Kappelman on the night she died.

Kappelman's body was found in February near her family's apartment in Walton. She was wearing only a tanktop and laying in the snow. Last month, the Boone County coroner ruled her cause of death to be hypothermia due to exposure, but also said that ethyl alcohol intoxication contributed to her death as well.

"She is 15 years old and she was given excessive amounts of alcohol allegedly by this 20 year old defendant here in Kenton County," said Kenton County attorney Garry Edmondson. "She was taken back to Boone County and put out of the car and then she ultimately died of exposure in a very bad winter."

Investigators say Kappelman had a blood-alcohol level of .12, well over the legal limit for drinking and driving. Police believe Kappelman snuck out of her parents' apartment with a friend and went to someone's home, where she got drunk. She was driven back to her apartment, but never made it inside.

Kappelman was a freshman at Ryle High School.
