High water forces Pendleton County schools to close for second day

FALMOUTH, KY (FOX19) - High water has forced the closure of Pendleton County Schools for a second day.

Falmouth is seeing its worst flooding since the historic flood of 1997. At 7 a.m. Monday night, the Licking River was 32.7 feet, after having reached 38.3 feet on Monday night. Flood stage is 25 feet.

"This is the first time that I have experienced this on this road," said resident Brandon Gregg. "Some of the neighbors towards the end of the road have lived here for more than 20 years and say this is only the third time they have seen this road covered by flood waters."

Pendleton County's Emergency Management Director Mike Moore says about a dozen roads are impacted in Falmouth and throughout the county.

"We can handle 37 feet," said Moore. "The trouble that it's going to cause is flooding over roads out in the county."
