HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - Workers at the Butler County Board of Elections were busy cleaning up after Tuesday night's primary election, while the information technology staff were busy cleaning up a web problem.

According to Greg Sullivan, the Technology Services Director says,

"Last night we were getting heavy amount of traffic that basically caused our web server/servers not to be able to deliver the cumulative results to the public," said Greg Sullivan, Technology Services Director.

Absentee ballots had been tabulated but the results wouldn't post on the web. There was a completely different route than what the public uses to get the results posted about 90 minutes later.

Sullivan's staff spent the day analyzing the specific traffic that caused the problem and accurately characterize the nature of it.

'"We are not ready to characterize last night as malicious service attack," said Sullivan. "It was, certainly suspicious at the time, we're in the process of better defining that nature of the issue last night."

Thursday a report will be issued detail the results of details investigation and whether Tuesday's mishap was caused by a hacker or a virus.
