MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) - A few leads have led to the arrest of a Middletown woman who is charged after leaving five puppies in a duffle bag in an alley last week.

Beth Deaton, 31, was arrested and charged with five counts of cruelty to a companion animal and five counts of abandoning animals. She pled guilty in court Friday.

Officials say that Deaton put five puppies in a duffle bag and left them in an ally off of Hill Avenue in Middletown last Friday. A passerby spotted the bag moving and found the pups. Just a few leads lead to an interrogation by the Animal Friends Humane Society and the Middletown Police.

The Humane Society says that Deaton identified the mother of the puppies who was found loose in Miami Park just five days before the puppies were found.

Officials say that Deaton also gave one puppy to a family member and kept another herself while abandoning the rest.

Deaton is currently being held at the Middletown Jail where she will be arraigned Friday morning.
