Xavier's Crawford Will Enter NBA Draft

CINCINNATI --- Xavier University sophomore Jordan Crawford has decided to keep his name in the upcoming June 24 NBA Draft. Crawford, who had until May 8 to decide, has hired agent Mark Bartelstein.

 "I want to thank Jordan for his efforts these last two years," said Xavier head coach Chris Mack. "I've seen firsthand the ability, skill and drive from Jordan I believe it takes to have a lengthy NBA career. While it is a bittersweet moment for Xavier Basketball, I'm confident Jordan Crawford is making a wise decision. There is no doubt in my mind he is NBA ready. Jordan and his family will always be a part of Xavier. Our program, coaches and players wish JC nothing but the best."

 Crawford is bidding to become the 15th former Xavier player to play and/or be drafted to play in the NBA Draft since 1990, including three on current NBA rosters. Derrick Brown, 2009 Xavier graduate, was selected in the second round of the 2009 NBA Draft by Charlotte and played this past season for the Bobcats. David West, 2003 Xavier graduate and two-time NBA All-Star, just completed his seventh NBA season with the New Orleans Hornets. James Posey, 1999 Xavier graduate, has played 11 NBA seasons and won NBA Championships in Miami and Boston.

 Crawford, a Sporting News Third Team All-American in his one season of eligibility in a Musketeer uniform, led the Atlantic 10 Conference and was 21st in the nation in scoring at 20.5 ppg. this past season, while helping lead Xavier to a 26-9 record, a fourth straight Atlantic 10 Conference Regular Season Championship and a third straight trip to at least the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16.  Crawford also contributed 4.7 rpg. (third on the team) and 2.9 apg. (second on the team).

 Crawford really shined in the 2010 NCAA Tournament. He earned a spot on the five-member NCAA Tournament All-West Region Team after averaging 29.0 ppg. for Xavier's three games, including a career-high 32 against Kansas State in the Regional Semifinal. 

 Crawford transferred to Xavier after playing as a freshman at Indiana University in the 2007-08 season. He practiced with Xavier in the 2008-09 season before becoming eligible for games in the 2009-10 season.


His other honors also included Sporting News and foxsports.com Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Year, First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection by the A-10 coaches, USBWA (United States Basketball Writers Association) All-District V Team and NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) All-District 4 First Team.


The 2010 NBA Draft will be held on June 24, 2010 at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden in New York City. It starts at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN.
