BATAVIA, OH (FOX19) - A Batavia police officer has been suspended following a crash over the weekend involving a Duke Energy truck driver.

The accident happened Sunday on Foundry Avenue. The driver of the Duke truck, Kenneth Mathers, has been charged with drunk driving.

Batavia Police Chief Mike Gardner says a Batavia Police Officer had contact with Mathers before the accident, at Sycamore Park on State Route 32. The officer, who Gardner did not name, let Mathers go.

Gardner says the officer has been placed on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
