Local group protests BP

NORWOOD, OH (FOX19) - A local group was at the Norwood BP station Wednesday, protesting the oil company and showing support for Gulf Coast residents affected by a massive oil spill.

The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is threatening marine life, beaches and wetlands in the area.

Hamilton County residents and members of the Sierra Club were at the BP gas station on Madison Road protesting the company and calling an end to offshore drilling.

Protestors held signs saying, "Clean It Up: Our Gulf Coast, Our Energy," "Honk For Clean Energy," and "No More Drilling." They will also call on BP to "clean up their mess" by carrying brooms and mops.

An Associated Press report released last week said the spill has yet to effect consumers' choice at the pump.

BP executives were in Washington on Tuesday, playing the blame game with two other companies involved in the spill. They told senators the spill was caused by the failure of a safety device made by another firm, but that company said BP was in charge, and that a third company that poured concrete didn't do it right. The third company said it was just following BP's plan.
