COLUMBUS, OH (FOX19) -- Ohio customers will see new charges on their Duke energy bills very soon.
The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) approved the utility's smart grid application last week.
The smart grid includes a variety of improvements to electric transmission and distribution systems using several technological advancements. The improvements will make the grid more efficient and reliable.
The new charges will pay for the utility's smart grid and natural gas advanced meter improvements.
The charges went into effect May 17. Ohio customers will now pay 49 cents more per month and natural gas customers will pay 12 cents more per month.
