(The following was released by the Atlantic Ten Conference)
The Atlantic 10 has released matchups for the 2010-11 men's basketball conference season as announced at the conclusion of the 2010 annual meeting, which included directors of athletics, men's and women's head basketball coaches and conference staff at The Kingsmill Resort & Spa in Williamsburg, Va.
The A-10 will once again play a 16-game men's basketball conference schedule in 2010-11, which allows teams to face each opponent once and three teams twice. The Xavier University men's basketball team will partake in home-and-home series with Charlotte, Dayton and Saint Louis. XU will welcome Fordham, George Washington, La Salle, Massachusetts and Temple exclusively at home. Xavier will take on Duquesne, Rhode Island, Richmond, St. Bonaventure and Saint Joseph's on the road only.
Highlights from the meeting included reconfirming the format for the 2011 A-10 Men's Basketball Championship; the 2010 regular season men's basketball conference schedule was approved; league officials discussed conference and NCAA legislation as well as potential conference realignment pertaining to both the A-10 and national Division I conferences.
The directors also reaffirmed the continued development of an Atlantic 10 strategic initiative plan focusing on the five core areas of importance in the mission of the Atlantic 10 Conference. All Olympic sport championship sites for the 2010-11 season were approved, along with a final review of the league's postgraduate scholarship nominations.
After seeing an increase in the revenue and dramatic rise in attendance at the 2010 Men's Basketball Championship, the format for the 2011 Championship (Mar. 8-13) will remain the same. The top 12 teams at the conclusion of the regular season will advance to the 2011 Championship, with the top four seeds earning byes. First round contests will be played on the campuses of teams seeded fifth-thru-eighth. The setting for the Championship then shifts to Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.
The finals of the 35th annual Men's Basketball Championship will be held on Sunday, Mar. 13, and televised live at 1 p.m. on the CBS network for the second consecutive year. Fans can reserve all-session tickets for the 2011 Championship by calling Boardwalk Hall at (609) 348-7021.
