SCPA gets $4 million in state funding

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The State Controlling Board has approved spending $4 million to aid in the construction of the new, state-of-the-art building for the School of Creative and Performing Arts in Over the Rhine.

"For nearly forty years, the School of Creative and Performing Arts has been a shining star in our community that attracts students from every corner of the state and region," said State Rep. Dale Mallory. "The state's investment in the new building marks a continued commitment to our talented young people who have an interest and passion for the arts."

The new school has been designed and bid, and construction is nearly complete. The grant will be used to reimburse the Cincinnati Public School District for some of its expenses on the school.

The new school building will be the nation's first K-12 public school devoted to the arts. To ensure a first-class facility, it is being built with a partnership between Cincinnati Public Schools, the Ohio School Facilities Commission and private citizens who care about the arts, education and Cincinnati.

The new school's 1,350 students will come to class in a state-of-the-art, 250,000 square-feet building tailored to fulfill their academic requirements and artistic ambitions.
