Council committee debate future of troubled nightclub

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A Cincinnati City Council committee is debating the future of a troubled night club on Tuesday.

Councilmembers Leslie Ghiz, Jeff Berding and Chris Bortz submitted a motion to have the city take all the necessary and appropriate steps to address and correct the problems at Club Ritz in Roselawn.

City officials want the state to conduct a liquor investigation and to look into the club's other licenses to possibly revoke them.

The most recent incident at the Ritz involves the death of Dexter Burroughs, who was fatally shot last weekend at the club. Burroughs will be laid to rest on Tuesday.

Burroughs' father, Ehling, has been protesting at the bar, demanding that it be closed. He says he plans to fight until that happens.

Councilman Charlie Winburn is introducing a motion Wednesday that would shut down any establishment where a shooting or murder takes place.

Club Ritz owner Andrew Williams says the problem isn't his bar.

"These problems are everywhere in our community everyday, not just at any night club," he said.

Williams says he's working with police to keep violence out of his club by upping security and making the club members only so anyone who comes in will have a photo record in their system.
