Emergency management prepares for aircraft disasters

COLD SPRING, KY (FOX19) - The Campbell County Office of Emergency Management is holding a full scale aircraft disaster exercise Wednesday morning at 9:30 a.m.

The exercise is taking place at the soccer field  next to the administration building on East Alexandra Pike. As many as 12 agencies are expected to take part in the simulated disaster.

Emergency Management decided to focus on plane crashes because the community has several nearby airports including P and G Lunken Airport.

The scenario will help prepare police and other agencies on how to help victims and what to expect from a crash.

Volunteers used fake blood and pretended to have life threatening injuries. Fiberglass was hung in trees to help create a realistic atmosphere.

Fire trucks and other emergency vehicles were also used to create a simulated disaster area. The exercise is expected to last three hours.
