GEORGETOWN, OH (FOX19) -- The Brown County Sheriffs' Department is reporting that a mountain lion has been seen in the Georgetown area.

On Wednesday morning, dispatchers were called to Sunshine Road for a report of a mountain lion sighting in an open field. When Deputies arrived on the scene, they were not able to locate the animal. The person who saw the lion said that she saw the animals through binoculars and was positive that it was a mountain lion that was the size of a small calf.

Thursday morning, the Sheriff's Office responded to a call of a loud growling noise on Barnes Road near the Rumpke Landfill. The caller though it may have been the mountain lion. Again the Deputies were not able to find the animal.

Previously, the Sheriff's Office received information about a person who lived on Western Run Avenue in Mt. Orab who bought a mountain lion from a flea market in Lucasville. The lion had become aggressive and they had planned on disposing the animal. Before they could,  the mountain lion escaped was never found. This was about one month ago. It is not known if this could be the same animal.

Sheriff Dwayne Wenninger says that anyone who comes into contact with and is threatened by the mountain lion has permission to kill it, if it can be done safely. Anyone who sees the mountain lion in a residential area is asked to contact the Brown County Communications Center at 937-378-4155.

The Sheriff would also like the stress the importance of getting the proper wildlife permits and having the proper facilities to keep wild animals if you are going to purchase them at flea markets.  You must keep in mind that it is a wild animal and not a house pet.
