Good guys loitering in Westwood

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - People in Westwood are taking a stand against crime and they're doing it sitting down.

It is called the Good Guy Loitering program and they're starting a whole new season of hanging out.

It was a sultry night to be out on the streets, but residents say this will help deter criminals from wandering into their neighborhoods.

This is the third year they've been doing this in Westwood. Residents take turns sitting on street corners that have become hot spots for criminal activity, taking their community back, one intersection at a time.

People who live at the corner of Hanna and Pickbury told FOX19 they've seen a glimpse of what could be things to come, so they took action.

Westwood organizer Brian Lee told FOX19, Good Guy Loitering, is just friends and neighbors getting together publicly in a part of the community struggling with bad behavior. It is a showing that such behavior is not acceptable.

In large part, Lee said it is a few hours of fun and fellowship with others in the neighborhood. Those involved said it is a great time and maybe that's the point. People seeing neighbors out having a good time at night in the community is a good thing.

The Good Guy Loitering program is rapidly spreading to other neighborhoods as well. Lee said as of today, Bond Hill, Madisonville, and Roselawn have all begun the process of starting Good Guy Loitering branches, after witnessing the program's success in Price Hill. Plans are in the works to add communities like Pleasant Ridge, Oakley, College Hill and more.
