City Council member pushes city to continue using radar

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Days after the Ohio Supreme Court passed a ruling allowing police to use estimates while issuing speeding citations, a member of Cincinnati City Council has presented a motion saying Cincinnati Police should continue to use radar.

Council member Wendell Young, a former Cincinnati Police officer, says "Our police department does a fantastic job keeping our streets safe from speeders, and in all my years of service, I've never seen an officer give a ticket using an 'estimate'."

The Ohio Supreme Court ruled June 2 in a 5-1 vote that "independent verification of a driver's speed is not necessary."

The motion is set to appear on the council's weekly agenda for referral to a committee.
