FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - Travel through the back streets of Boone County this summer and you'll see a slice of Americana.

"In 1940, we were 50 percent, 51 percent farmers. This year, there is less than one percent farmers. So if we are going to get anything on a barn, we'd better do it fast!" says Joyce Foley about the decision to hang quilt paintings on barns across the county.

The Florence Women's club took the lead in organizing the Boone Barn Quilt Trail after seeing similar trails in counties across the Midwest. Currently, the quilt trail has 44 featured barns with 44 different quilt paintings. Each one has a different meaning.

Joyce Foley took FOX19 to some of the paintings across the county.

"The Licking Valley Quilt Guild did this board, which I thought was appropriate, a quilt guild sponsoring a board, and this is their logo," says Foley of one of the barns on Camp Ernst Road. Most of the barns are in the western part of Boone County.

Foley says the Women's Club hopes visitors and residents of Boone County will enjoy the paintings for years to come. Each painting is supposed to resist water and weather damage for eight years.
