CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
UPDATE: Power has been restored at the University of Cincinnati. University Hospital says they are no longer diverting patients to other area hospitals.
A transformer fire near the University of Cincinnati campus has caused several buildings, including UC Hospital, to lose power.
UC Hospital officials say emergency generators kicked in and at no time was patient safety compromised. Patients on life support are connected to special outlets that maintained the flow of uninterrupted power to the units sustaining them.
The fire occurred just before 1 p.m. on the corner of Rochelle St. and Glendora Ave. There are no reports of injuries.
Other buildings in the Uptown campuses are also affected by the power outage.
UC Hospital officials say patients in need of services at the hospital are being diverted to other area hospitals as they work with Duke Energy to remedy the problem. Those concerned about loved ones at the hospital are urged not to come down to the hospital.
