Solid Rock pastors say they'll rebuild statue

MONROE, OH (FOX19) - Just a few months ago pastors were planing on repainting the King of Kings statue, now they're planning on rebuilding.

"We know it can be replaced, and the real one is still alive," said Pastor Lawrence Bishop, founder of Solid Rock Church in Monroe.

Bishop and his wife, Pastor Darlene Bishop, came back to survey the damage Tuesday -- a day after flames destroyed the statue that became synonymous with their church.
"It was a shock surprise," Bishop said.
"Our home for women is right next door to this and I told them this morning I said Jesus took the hit for you girls, because they could have been homeless," said Darlene Bishop.
Bishop says calls and emails are pouring in from as far as China, from people asking how they can help bring the gigantic Jesus back.
"All over the world, people have called and people have said they were going to donate money, because they want it back, people that don't even live in this state," Bishop said.
Pastors say they did have insurance on both the statue and the amphitheater and they're optimistic about rebuilding.
"We figure because we do give to charities, that's why we were blessed with the money to be able to build it," Bishop said.
"We're just thankful that everything that was destroyed is material and it can be built back," said Darlene Bishop.
Pastors say their annual July 4 celebration they host in the amphitheater may now have to be canceled, meanwhile they say services this Sunday will continue as scheduled.
