Man arrested after deadly accident in Monroe

MONROE, OH (FOX19) -- A local man is in jail after police say he was driving under the influence and caused a deadly accident Saturday evening.

Around 7:30pm, Monroe Police were called to S. R. 63 east of East Avenue for a report of a pedestrian struck.

Police discovered Curtis Ward drove off the right side of the roadway and struck Stacy Moermond. He was behind his vehicle that was disabled and was pulled over off the side of the road at the time of the incident.

Moermond was flown to Miami Valley Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Ward is being charged with OVI and Aggravated Vehicular Homicide. He is currently in the Butler Count Jail where he awaits a court appearance.
