HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - Butler County Prosecutor Robin Piper announced Tuesday that several employees in his office have been laid off or are facing furloughs.
The announcement was made after the Commissioner's Office announced a $3.5 million shortfall in the general fund. The county auditor says the shortfall could be more than originally expected.
As a result, Piper says his office has begun a furlough for classified workers and a pay reduction for non-classified workers. In addition, five positions have been eliminated, four of which are assistant prosecutors.
"People are being moved around and asked to handle more work, with new responsibilities," said Piper. "Unfortunately, to stabilize the budget, it means furloughs and lay-offs. There is no choice but to reduce the size of government in response to the estimated shortfalls in the general fund."
As a result of the layoffs, the prosecutor's office cut their budget $288,000.
