MONROE, OH (FOX19) - A Dayton couple was behind bars Tuesday night after an off-duty Cincinnati police officer found a pair of kids in the back of a hot car outside the Cincinnati Premium Outlets off I-75 in Monroe.

Monroe Police say that officer told them she waited several minutes to see if anyone showed up, then called dispatch.  After the Monroe Police arrived, it was another 20 minutes before the couple arrived.

They report that the couple claimed they had stopped at the mall to make a quick trip to the restroom.  After the police pointed out that they were carrying full bags of things they had bought, the next stop was the Warren County Jail.

Charged with misdemeanor child endangering are 49-year-old Dianna Taylor, the children's grandmother, and her boyfriend 52-year-old Alvin Abney.

Police say the children appeared overheated, but seemed to be find after a few minutes in cool air.  They called the kids' mother to pick them up.
