Volquez Strong In Triple A Start

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Cincinnati Reds pitcher Edinson Volquez

has pitched five sharp innings in his first Triple-A start since

having Tommy John surgery last August.

Volquez allowed one run on three hits over five innings for the

Louisville Bats Wednesday. He had one strikeout and no walks

against the Toledo Mud Hens, leaving with a 3-1 lead after throwing

80 pitches, 49 for strikes.

The 26-year-old Volquez was an All-Star in 2008, but hasn't

pitched in the majors since undergoing surgery on his right elbow

Volquez recently completed a 50-game suspension for testing

positive for a performance-enhancing substance. Volquez said the

substance was a fertility drug he took to help him and his wife

start a family.
