COVINGTON, KY (FOX19) - It may have taken police years to indict Christopher Applegate, but as police head into their second day of searching for him, Kenton County Commonwealth Attorney Rob Sanders says getting this guy off the streets is imperative.

Police have picked up Applegate before, but now they want to serve a warrant to him for more than 20 charges related to child porn and one charge of sexual abuse.

"The child that's involved in the sexual abuse allegation confided in and the mother then reported this to authorities," says Commonwealth Attorney Rob Sanders about the ongoing investigation.

Police started looking into the case back in 2006.

"The child pornography in this case does not involve the same victim as the sexual abuse first degree. We believe that he was collecting and distributing the child pornography from various sources. I believe a lot of it, if not all of it, is over the Internet," says Sanders.

Kenton County sheriff's deputy Todd Massey says police are doing an active search, but need the community's help. Police say in these types of cases the suspects often go underground.

If you have any information on Applegate's whereabouts, call Crimestoppers at 513-352-3040.
