TRENTON, OH (FOX19) -- The City of Trenton and the Trenton Police department are asking for help in locating anyone involved in the theft of sewer lids.

Late Tuesday evening, officials discovered that unknown suspects has stole two sanitary sewer lids from the sewer openings in the 700 block of Trenton Road.

Open manholes are a serious safety issue foe everyone, especially those with children and pets who could easily fall down the shafts.

The open shafts were also stuffed with garbage, blocking the City sewer system almost completely in that area. This could have created and unhealthy living environment for residents on Trenton Road, Edgewood Drive, and Villa Hills if it had not been found.

It has cost the City close to $6,000 dollars to clear the blockage.

The City of Trenton and the Police department is asking anyone with information about the thefts or observe anyone tampering with sewer lids and/or dumping trash into the sewer system is asked to call the Trenton Police at 513-988-6341 or Trenton Public Works at 513-988-6304, ext. 157.
