MASON, OH (FOX19) - A suspicious package found Thursday night in Mason turned out to be harmless.
A suspicious package was reported at the Shell gas station on Kings Mills Rd. Clerks at the counter observed an unattended briefcase at the checkout counter. When they opened it, they noticed wiring and a battery back and called 911 just after 9 p.m.
Local businesses were evacuated and the exit from Interstate 71 to Kings Mill Road was also closed.
The bomb squad was called and used standard disarming procedures to open the briefcase and found no explosives. It appeared to contain equipment for industrial use.
The incident remains under investigation and normal traffic and business resumed at 1:20 a.m.
