CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Travelers in need of U.S. passport will now be paying more.
Passport fees are increasing beginning Tuesday, July 13.
The total cost for first time applicants is now $135, and increase of approximately $35.
According to the U.S. Department of State, the increased fees reflect the true cost of providing the service. Passport books or cards are required for everyone entering the U.S. by air, land or sea.
According to AAA, travelers can expect the following fees for passport books and passport cards:
U.S. Passport Book – Required for all international air travel:
- Adults (16 and older), First Time: $135
- Adults (16 and older), Renewal: $110
- Minors (under 16): $105
U.S. Passport Card – Accepted at land or sea ports for travel between the U.S. and Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean and Bermuda, but cannot be used for air travel:
- Adults (16 and older), First Time: $55
- Adults, Renewal: $30
- Minors (under 16): $40
