Avondale man dead after wrong-way crash

By Richard Todd email

A 22-year-old Avondale man died Saturday after his car hit a semi head-on on I-75.

The crash happened on southbound 75 near Towne Street in Bond Hill.  Police say Joshua Baskerville was driving a 2007 Chevrolet northbound in the southbound lanes when he crashed head-on into a semi driven by a Louisville truck driver.

The crash, which happened around 2:30 a.m., shut down I-75 for quite a while.

Baskerville was not wearing a seat belt.  He was trapped in the crushed car and died at the scene.  Police say the truck driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was unhurt.

Police say alcohol appears to have been a factor in this crash.

Police were still trying to find out where Baskerville entered the highway.  The next two exits from that spot on southbound 75 are the Norwood Lateral and Mitchell Avenue.
