LEBANON, OH (FOX19) - Police are investigating the drowning of a 3-year-old girl in Lebanon.

Jaelynn McKinney, 3, was found at 7:30 p.m. Monday night in a pool in the 700 block of Miller Road.

Investigators said McKinney lived with her uncle, Michael Guenthner, and his girlfriend, Kimberly Lafferty.

Lafferty told police she was outside with Jaelynn and went inside for three to five minutes to say goodbye to company that was at the home. When she returned outside, she found the little girl floating face-up in the pool.

Lafferty began CPR while Guenthner called 911. Jaelynn was taken to Bethesda Arrow Springs Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

FOX 19 talked to Jaelynn's maternal grandmother on Tuesday who said she is heartbroken.  Cheryl McKinney said they called Jaelynn "blue eyes" and she had a smile as wide as her face.  McKinney says the news was even harder to take given the recent rash of drowning's in the Tri-State.

"Please parents, please watch your children.  It only takes a second and it's caused a lifetime of pain now." McKinney said, through tears.

The incident remains under investigation but Lebanon Police do not expect to file any charges.

Guenthner advised he has legal custody of Jaelynn since she was nine months old and she has had limited contact from her biological mother and father.
