Man leads police on chase in Hamilton County Courthouse

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A chase inside the Hamilton County Courthouse on Tuesday ended with the man being pursued getting tased by a courthouse detective.

Earl Shields, 35, was in the Hamilton County Courthouse Tuesday on state gun and drug charges. Detective Tim Moss, a court services detective, got word from the Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team that Shields may be wanted by federal authorities may be looking for Shields as well.

Moss entered the courtroom that Shields was in but was not able to identify that Shields was the same man that federal authorities were looking for. When Shields left the courtroom with his girlfriend, Moss followed Shields to the elevator.

Outside of the courtroom, Moss and Shields reportedly made eye contact, which caused Shields to run from Moss. Shields ran down the stairs and led Moss on a pursuit throughout the courthouse.

The chase ended when authorities in the courthouse cornered Shields and tasered him. The chase took Moss and Hamilton County deputies through three floors of the courthouse.

No additional charges were issued against Shields.
