Warrants issued after chase

COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Police have signed warrants on a suspect after he got away during a chase.

The chase happened just before 2 a.m. Wednesday morning. A Hamilton County Sheriff's deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on the entrance ramp to SR 562 from Ridge Road for an equipment violation.

Police say the passenger in the vehicle had re-citable traffic capias. When the deputy returned to the vehicle, he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

When the deputy called for K-9 units to respond, the driver took off, fleeing westbound on 562 before exiting onto Reading Road, turning left on Avonlea, right on Rhode Island and left on Northcut, which turns into Yarmouth.

The driver fled from the vehicle in the 1200 block of Yarmouth and ran across Paddock Road. K-9 units responded to find the suspect, but could not locate him.

The driver has been identified as Cevie Smoot, 27. Warrants have been signed for failure to comply.
