More deaths on Ohio roads the first half of this year than last year

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - The Ohio Department of Public Safety announced the number of deaths on Ohio roadways this year has already surpassed last year's totals.

Highway deaths have increased by 12 percent this year. In 2009, there were 499 deaths in the first half of the year. This year, there have been 566 deaths in car crashes.

The Ohio Highway Patrol is reminding drivers to remember these laws:

  • Go the speed limit
  • Wear seat belts
  • Don't drink and drive

The Ohio Highway Patrol hopes to cut fatal crashes next year by 10 percent.
