Commissioners don't want limestone mine

ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Meeting in front of a packed house at the County Administration Building, all three Hamilton County commissioners voiced their opinions over a proposed mine in Anderson Township.

Commissioner David Pepper is spearheading the effort to stop Martin Marietta Materials from building a tunnel and proceeding with creating the mine.

During a staff meeting on Monday morning, Commissioners Todd Portune and Greg Hartmann agreed, saying they want to block the construction of the mine. A formal vote will be taken Wednesday.

Commissioners supported the organization C.A.B.O.O.M., or Citizens Against Blasting On Our Miami. Opponents of the mine are concerned over limestone dust, potential water contamination, and foundation troubles.

Officials for Martin Marietta said if the commissioners block the building of the tunnel, the company will present another plan to the Anderson Township Board of Appeals.
