Police officer kills pit bull in Colerain that bit him

COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - A police officer in Colerain Township was forced to kill a pit bull in self defense after being bit on the leg.

Officer Steven Karwisch was dispatched to the 2900 block of Atwater Dr. Thursday evening to a report of an aggressive pit bull. When Officer Karwisch located the pit bull, he attempted to restrain the animal. The animal then turned on the officer and bit him on the leg.

Officer Karwisch was forced at that point to shoot the pit bull in self defense.

Officer Karwisch was treated for his injuries on the scene by Colerain Township Life Squad personnel, and received no major injuries. The SPCA responded to the scene and took the remains of the dog.
