CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Funeral arrangements have been announced for Joann Burton, the homeless woman who was run over by a Cincinnati Police officer in Washington Park earlier this week.
The funeral will be held Friday, August 6 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will precede the funeral at 9:30 a.m. Her children are inviting everyone to attend.
Burton was lying under some blankets Tuesday when she was run over by officer Marty Polk, who was on routine patrol. Polk is on paid administrative leave.
The Greater Cincinnati Coalition for the homeless said in a statement that they demand a change in policy.
"Other than extreme situations, such as a shooting, police must not be allowed to drive through the grassy, pedestrian areas in parks," the statement read. "This practice is simply too dangerous."
Police Chief Tom Streicher said after the incident that it wasn't standard procedure for officers to drive through the grass, but it wasn't unusual."
