Kentucky Speedway Owner Planning "Big Press Conference"

Kentucky Speedway owner Bruton Smith is planning a big announcement dealing with the possibility of bringing a NASCAR Sprint Cup race to the track in the near future.

Smith told Kevin Kelly at the Enquirer there will be a "big press conference" at the track on August 10th and that it "deals with" the track's ongoing effort to land one of NASCAR's top tier races.  Smith says Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear will attend the news conference as well as three time Sprint Cup champion Darrell Waltrip.

After hearing Smith's comments and the planned attendance of Governor Beshear at the press conference the track's former owner, Jerry Carroll, tells the paper "they're not going to tell people bad news, so figure it from there."

NASCAR CEO Brian France hinted at Kentucky's inclusion on next years Sprint Cup schedule when he spoke to reporters before last week's Brickyard 400.  It was the first good indication that Kentucky could be in the mix for the 2011 schedule.

Kelly tells FOX 19, "a month ago he (Smith) felt like there was no way 2011 was a possibility.  I don't know what changed in a few weeks since the Nationwide race at the track but obviously something did and it appears likely that he got something done."
