LEBANON, Ohio (FOX19) - A Warren County judge heard arguments Tuesday on whether or not Ryan Widmer should be acquitted or possibly face a third trial for the death of his wife.
Sarah Widmer died in the bathtub of her Hamilton Township home in August of 2008. A 2009 guilty verdict from Widmer's first trial was overturned when Judge Neal Bronson found juror misconduct. A retrial in May ended in a mistrial when jurors couldn't reach a unanimous verdict.
Defense attorneys say Widmer should be acquitted. They say 24-year-old Sarah Widmer had a previously undisclosed heart condition and that there was no motive.
Prosecutors say a new witness will testify at trial to hearing Ryan Widmer admit to killing his wife at the couple's home. They say Sarah's family is supportive of a third trial and wants justice.
Judge Bronson heard arguments Tuesday afternoon. He said he will look at everything and make a decision as quickly as he can.
