CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Ryan Widmer's parents tell FOX19 they respect Judge Bronson's ruling, but can't believe they have to go through a third trial.
Fox 19 cameras were rolling as Widmer left his attorney's building Friday afternoon. He walked outside just moments after his press conference ended. He didn't say a word. Instead, he allowed his parents to speak on his behalf.
"He was pretty devastated," said Widmer's mother Jill. "For the last few years, he's been unable to really mourn Sarah properly the way he should be able to."
His parents Jill and Gary are disappointed and emotionally, physically and financially drained. Widmer's parents said they are ready to stand by their son.
"We look forward to a third trial to regain Ryan's innocence," said Widmer's father Gary.
"We're in this together, and it's our son and we know he's innocent," said Jill Widmer. "We're going to do whatever it takes for him to be set free."
Widmer's parents wouldn't comment on whether they plan to keep their son's same defense team for the next trial.
Many believe the third trial should be held in a different venue. Widmer's attorney Jay Clark said he couldn't say much on the issue because of a gag order, but is considering all of his options right now.
"All I can say is we were able to get a jury for the second trial," said Clark. "I have no reason to think we can't get a jury again. It's something we'll absolutely have to look at, but I don't feel uncomfortable with the citizens of Warren County at all."
Clark said he's not sure when the third trial would begin, but he's guessing it would start after the first of next year.
