Purple heart recipients were recognized in an event in Fountain Square

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - A Purple Heart Tribute event was held on Fountain Square to tribute veterans who were killed or wounded in action.

Veterans who were awarded the Purple Heart medal for their combat wounds were able to display it and talk about their experiences.

"Whenever you say purple heart, people respond. A purple heart is a selective group that are recipients. And you can't just be hurt, you have to be combat wounded," says Tommy Anderson, a Veteran who received a Purple Heart medal.

Displays were also set up to offer information about World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

The event was sponsored by Cincinnati's two Purple Heart Chapters.
