Indianapolis police arrest 23 in dog fighting raid

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indianapolis police have arrested 23 people after raiding a suspected dog-fighting operation on the city's west side.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release Saturday that those arrested were attending a dog fight in an arena inside a home at the time of the raid late Friday. Those arrested were charged with attending an animal-fighting contest, a Class A misdemeanor.

Animal control officials removed nine pit bulls from inside and outside of the home. Police say officers also recovered drugs, weapons and cash.
