HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - A three-person panel in Hamilton Township says the personnel file of the lead investigator in the Ryan Widmer case needs to be reviewed.
Lt. Jeff Braley was the lead investigator in the death of Sarah Widmer, who died in the bathtub of her Hamilton Township home in August 2008. Her husband, Ryan, is facing a third trial for her death after juror misconduct in his first trial and a hung jury in his second trial.
A three-person panel was assigned to look into Braley's personnel files after Widmer's defense attorneys said his job application and cover letter misrepresent his experience and education.
Namely, the panel suggested that Hamilton Township trustees review the cover letter in Braley's personnel file.
Asst. Hamilton Township Administrator Gary Boeres says the panel has asked the trustees to "actively pursue investigating who put the document in the file and how it got there."
After interviewing Braley, the former fire chief and the former police chief, the committee determined that there was false information in the cover letter. They are recommending that the cover letter be removed from Braley's personnel file.
The panel will present their findings and make recommendations to trustees at the trustee meeting on Wednesday, August 18 at 6 p.m.
