CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Bengals linebacker Rey Maualuga will not be suspended for a drunk driving offense earlier this year.
ESPN earlier Tuesday quoted an NFL source in saying that league officials decided not to suspend Maualuga after hearing arguments from his attorney.
According to an official statement from the NFL released Tuesday, Maualuga will be fined two game checks and will forfeit an additional 2/17 of his signing bonus.
Maualuga was arrested for DUI and careless driving in January in Covington after hitting a parking meter two parked cars. He pled guilty was slapped with a seven-day suspended jail sentence, a 90-day suspension of his driver's license and about $350 in court costs and fines. He also had to attend a rehab program and be on probation for two years.
Maualuga is the second Bengal to avoid suspension after getting in trouble with the law. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell failed to suspend runningback Cedric Benson after he was arrested for misdemeanor assault in Texas.
