CALIFORNIA, KY (FOX 19) – Three hours after turning 21, Daniel Mattingly died after crashing his 1988 GMC pickup truck.
Campbell County Police are investigating the crash, attempting to see what might have caused the accident.
Friends and family are mourning the loss of man they say would do anything for anyone.
"You couldn't have met a nicer person," said a lifelong friend. "He's the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back and the shoes off his feet."
His friends called him "doodles" and smile thinking about his obsession with old Ford trucks.
Decals in Mattingly's honor are being made to remember him.
"We going to put his nickname doodles on there with a drawing of his favorite truck," says Mattingly's friend.
That friend, who did not wish to give his name, said he was following Daniel home this morning when he saw the whole crash.
"He came around the turn and then the truck started rolling," says his friend.
He rushed to the car, pulled the windshield off cutting his hands and face, then pulled Mattingly out of the truck. However, he knew it was too late.
No funeral arrangements have been announced and the crash remains under investigation.
