Families displaced after apartment fire in Springdale

SPRINGDALE, OH (FOX19) - Several families are displaced after an apartment fire that occurred Monday evening.

A short time after 6 p.m., fire crews were called to the 1200 block of Chesterwood Court after they received calls about an apartment fire.

Officials say the blaze started on one of the bottom floors and spread to the other units. Five other crews were called out to assist fire crews already on the scene. It took crews about 30 minutes to get the fire under control.

One person suffered minor burns and was taken to the hospital. That person is expected to be okay.

Four of the apartment units were a total loss with the possibility of a fifth apartment being uninhabitable. The Red Cross is helping the families find shelter.

Damage is estimated to be at least $100,000. The cause may have been a mattress catching fire.
