HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - Hamilton Police have arrested a man who jumped into the Great Miami River in order to avoid police.
Police responded to B Street and Black Street just before 10 p.m. Monday night. As officers responded, the suspect, Steven Schnuck, 25, fled on foot towards the river. He then jumped into the river to avoid apprehension.
Hamilton fire units were dispatched and river rescue was activated. Schnuck swam north in the river and climbed onto the top of the dam. The Butler County Sheriff's river rescue unit was activated to the upper side of the river.
Schnuck remained on the dam for about two hours before he finally came out of the river and was taken into custody without further incident.
He was taken to Fort Hamilton Hospital for minor injures and released. He is charged with assault, obstructing official business and inducing panic.
