Joey Votto graces the cover of Sports Illustrated

CINCINNATI (FOX19) - Reds first baseman and National League MVP candidate Joey Votto graces the cover of this week's August 30, 2010, issue of Sports Illustrated. He is the first Red to be on the cover since Ken Griffey, Jr. graced the cover in June 2004.

Joey Votto has been instrumental to the Reds success this season and  is also having an exceptional year. He is currently, in 1st place in the league in batting average, 2nd in the RBI's and 3rd place on homerun leader board. Joey Votto's success has not gone unnoticed, it is easy to see why he is a National League MVP candidate. This prestigious award has not been awarded to a Cincinnati Red since Barry Larkin won in 1995.

Sports Illustrated has a long history with the Cincinnati Reds. 12 Reds players now have appeared solo 23 times on the Sports Illustrated cover including  Pete Rose (8 times), Johnny Bench (3), Griffey Jr. (2), Tom Seaver (2), Joe Morgan (1), George Foster (1), Eric Davis (1), Chris Sabo (1), Deion Sanders (1), Joey Jay (1) and Roy McMillan (1)...owner Marge Schott also appeared on 1 cover.
