CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - A Hamilton County judge has found a man not guilty by reason of insanity for killing his family, then setting fire to his house.
Judge Beth Myers made the ruling Thursday morning.
Timothy Sturgel was indicted in February for the deaths of his adoptive father, stepmother and stepsister. Jerry Sturgel, 51, Mary Sturgel, 40, and Emily Hurst, 13, were killed in their Colerain Township home in January.
A Sheriff's report stated that Sturgel had a "reported mental disorder." Police and court records also showed that local officers had been called to the home for psychiatric emergencies, and that Timothy Sturgel had been ordered to undergo psychiatric treatment at least four times in recent years.
Sturgel was facing three counts of murder, three counts of felonious assault and two counts of aggravated arson.
