The Bellevue Tigers rallied past the Newport Wildcats 35-34 to pick up their first win in the Russ Shearer era in front of packed house at Gilligan Stadium.
Bellevue (1-1) rallied from a 20-8 deficit early on behind the running of senior D.J. Slater. The Tigers' running back finished the game with 198 yards on 23 carries and four touchdowns.
Newport's (0-1) Demitri Brown had a big effort in the loss, throwing for 160 yards and two scores while picking up another 109 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
The Tigers hit the road next week with a trip to Holmes and Newport travels to Pendleton County.
