CINCINNATI (FOX19) – Cincinnati Police detectives are searching for suspects caught on a security camera carting away copper downspouts.
Authorities released a surveillance tape showing just one instance of copper thieves targeting St. Cecilia School and Church in Oakley.
"You know even with the surveillance cameras that we have they still don't seem to have a problem with that and they seem pretty comfortable taking them," said Father Jamie Weber with St. Cecilia Church.
The video was taken August 19 and shows two people driving a maroon Ford Explorer with a sun roof. One suspect removes the valuable metal while the other person drives the car.
"As far as our downspout, it's been over a three year period that we have been cherry picked, that people have been taking copper pipes, downspout as you can see back here," said Father Weber.
Fourteen downspouts in all have been stolen in just the last month.
"As far as street value, you know people tell me when they pull something off, they are getting $20 or $30 bucks maybe, you know for us to replace it it's $200 to $400 dollars to replace it," said Father Weber.
Cincinnati Police officers say they are investigating a number of other copper gutter and downspout thefts in the area too.
